Hot BBQ tips for Summer

The barbecueAccording to the National BBQ Association, Brits enjoyed more than 90 million barbecues last year – many of which were held while people were on holiday.

For anyone planning an outdoor feast, we have come up with an at-a-glance guide to what’s hot and what’s not for summer 2008. And if you’re looking to invest in a new barbecue for the caravan this year, take a look at our mini guide to help find the right model for you.

What’s hot?

  • The grillslinger - A cleverly designed twist on the classic builder's belt, this barbecue tool system includes tongs, flipper and grill knife, securely held by washable 'lock-and-load' inserts, perfect for those gadget-lovers behind the barbecue.

What’s not?

  • Undercooked meat – food exposed to a very high heat will brown or blacken very quickly but won’t always be cooked at the centre. Check before you eat or give to guests.

  • Too much food – the average household throws out over £400 worth of food a year so think before you buy. Your wallet (and waistline!) will thank you.

  • Wasting energy – make the most efficient use of your barbecue by spreading food across the whole grate, using the lid and turning it off when you’ve finished cooking.

Choosing the right barbecue for caravanning

If you want to take the barbecue away in the caravan, why not consider a smaller compact barbecue that doesn’t take up too much room – a table top model is ideal, offering authentic barbecue food without taking up valuable space.

If you want your barbecue to be light, but big enough to offer food for a number of people, then a portable model, many of which fold into a handy carry bag, may be for you. Some barbecues also come with detachable legs, which are ideal for easy transportation – from your home to your caravan, and then even on to the park or beach!

Cooking on gas

Once you have decided on the barbecue, the final thing to do is get your hands on a gas cylinder. You can use a Patio Gas™ cylinder which comes in 5kg or 13kg sizes, depending on your barbecue. Alternatively, the Calor Lite™ cylinder is also a perfect choice for campers and caravanners.

Order Calor gas cylinders from the comfort of your own home – thanks to our new and improved online gas shop.
