Caravan Travelling Tips

Weber

Use wire coat hangers for clothes so you can bend the hook around the rod. That way your clothes don’t fall off when travelling.

Sarah Griffiths

Wrap an elastic strap around top of coat hangers whilst travelling, saves them all falling an floor.

Patricia Morris

If you have a bulldog hitch lock, then when you use it, put your 12N plug inside as well this will make it more awkward to tow as there will be no "tail lights" on the back of the caravan. (the water doesn't get to it either.)

William Carter

Make sure you receive extra lessons on how to drive your car with your caravan. You definitely will need them.

Catherine Dingwall

If travelling to the North of Scotland, make sure you can cope with single track roads and passing places if going to the remotest parts.

Graeme Mackinnon

Always carry a piece of stout rope - if conditions get very wet you can keep the car on the tarmac site road and draw the van off the grass without churning up the ground.

David Runnalls

Use bulldog clips to seal potato chip packets, milk cartons and cereal packets etc as these will move around whilst the caravan is in transit - something we found out to our cost!

Delicate wine glasses don't travel well either. But they can be carried safely if turned upside down and placed into expanded polystyrene stubby holders/coolers.

Heavy objects such as electric fry pans, fans, heaters etc. can slide about and cause damage. Put these appliances in boxes, or line the shelves with non-slip matting which can prevent the sliding.

If there is a lot of space on the shelves, allowing the appliances to move around, the space can be filled up with small empty cardboard boxes such as cereal boxes etc.

Emma Clarke

To stop small items, such as ashtrays or sugar bowls sliding around whilst in transit, paint the base with a rubber based glue such as copydex and allow to dry. This will form a slip resistant seal on the base, but will peal off when no longer required.
